Where does the dirt go?

Pardon my recent obsession with the holes in our yard, but this morning, I went outside and saw that the hole featured in the previous post was much deeper. And then I noticed another hole…and another…and another. Oh boy. Too bad for Sam and Liam that their mama likes to take pictures of everything and use said pictures as proof of their bad doggy ways (or, more often, as proof of how funny and cute they are, but not in this post). The one I really feel sorry for is Tom. He has filled in these holes, planted grass seed, watered the seed, mowed the grass, and edged the yard so many times. It’s just wrong that they keep making more work for him.

So, here is a guide to the holes of our backyard. (Click to enlarge.)

Exhibit A: The hole by the fence. Deeper than when we last saw it.

Exhibit C: HUGE hole made by doggies when the ground is still soggy from rain.

Exhibit D: They cleverly covered up this hole with a clipping of the Christmas tree that I threw into the yard. Seriously, I didn't do that for them.

Exhibit E: Near the patio. This one is a little old, but it's been tampered with recently. I put my rainboot-clad-foot (size 7.5,wide) in it to show the size of the hole.

Exhibit F: I'm not sure that this was made on purpose. It's probably the result of Liam jumping off the hill into this spot, repeatedly.

Exhibit G: Hole in the hill. Our pups enjoy ripping up the juniper on the hill in our yard. Tom put down mulch to make this less of a problem, but they pushed it all off the hill and continued in their heathenistic, garden-destroying ways.

So I ask you, ladies and gentlemen of the jury…should these dogs walk away from their crimes? Or should they be charged fairly?

Sam and Liam Guilty

That’s what I thought. Thank you. And for punishment? They must come inside from the cold December weather and snuggle with their mama. It’s a tough life.
