100th Post…I’m So In Love With Ya Honey.

This is the 100th post to our blog. I think Tom has contributed about 5 posts, so technically it is “our” blog still. I was thinking about what to put on this post last night. I was making cookies, and Tom was in the kitchen playing guitar. One of my favorite things is when I’m working in the kitchen and Tom comes in there to hang out with me. Sometimes we just talk; more often he brings his guitar. (Our kids will definitely think it’s normal to have sing-alongs all the time. We both love music, and with Tom’s mad guitar skills, no voice ever has to go without accompaniment.) When the guitar is out, he will end up playing songs that one or both of us know enough of the lyrics to sing along to, and such was the case last night.

That’s when I got this idea. I’m curious to know what song(s) you feel will always make you think about your relationship with your significant other. Or it could be your relationship with a friend, with a parent, with a sibling, with a grandparent, with whomever that matters to you. (For example, I have a college roommate/friend, Melissa, who I always think of when I hear Tim McGraw’s All We Ever Find (thank you rush 2004) and Josh Gracin’s Nothing to Lose, and another college roommate/friend, Claire, who I always think of when I hear Pump It by the Black Eyed Peas.)

But there is one song that I hear and have to smile because it makes me think of my marriage with Tom. In fact it make us both think of how it’s been starting out, because he and I have talked about this before. Basically, we love being married. We don’t have a ton of money, but we have a ton of fun together anyway. Benefit of being married to your best friend, I suppose. We love spending time together, living life together. And so this song always makes us smile, mainly at the chorus. It’s not the song we danced to at our wedding, though we both love it, and it does make us think of each other. It’s not “our song” from high school. It’s a song that makes us think of life after the wedding, while we learned how to be married and meld our lives and live on budgets and still love it all more than anything else we’d ever gone through. It’s a song I grew up singing in the car with my dad, and now I sing it in the kitchen with my husband. It’s Danny’s Songby Kenny Loggins.

The chorus goes like this:

And even though we ain’t got money, I’m so in love with ya honey,
And everything will bring a chain of love.
And in the morning when I rise, you bring a tear of joy to my eyes,
And tell me everything is gonna be alright.

So, you can see how two people just starting out would relate to that song, right? It is just special to me. I know that for the rest of my life, when I hear that song, I will think of us. I’ll remember our apartment, moving into our first house, wondering at times how we were going to pay for all the upcoming expenses and still grow our savings account, knowing we’d make it someway.

Does anyone else do that? Do you have a song that always makes you think of someone and/or a particular time in your life?
