I love being an Aunt

Tom and I  have a lot of nephews and nieces. We love it. =) I mean, really, we LOVE it. We have five nieces and two nephews. If Tom and I have a son, both sides of the family will probably rejoice to add another boy. Of course, they’ll rejoice to add another child no matter what. (I definitely want to have a son eventually, but I would so love a little girl, too. Such fun accessories to dress them up in. I’ve definitely gotten more girly with age.)

Anyway, yesterday, at 6:42 AM, my sister gave birth to her first baby, a little girl named Ella. If you don’t have kids and your siblings don’t have kids, then I don’t know how to make you understand the INSTANT love you have for that baby. I don’t have my own kids (yet), but I adore my nephews and nieces. I can only imagine how much more I will feel connected to my own child someday if I feel like this each time one of them is born. It’s an instant, immediate love. When my niece, Violet, was born, I had to keep a journal for a class I was in at UGA at the time. And I wrote about her. I talked about how with adults, you have to earn love and respect. We don’t just give our love away to other adults easily. But when a baby is introduced to your family, they steal your heart automatically. I am committed to making sure they are able to grow up in a happy, healthy, life. Tom and I love to spend time with our siblings’ kids. When Mandy, his sister, comes into town, she and Jim (her husband) will go to a football game, and we’ll stay at his parents’ house to hang out with the kiddos. When Lisa and Jonathan (my oldest brother) are busy, Tom and I would go to their house and watch the kids for a night or two. And we would take them to the Zoo, back when I could get in for free. We’re beside ourselves that Jonathan and Lisa are moving closer to us. We can’t wait to see all of them more often.

So, when Kristen, my sister, got pregnant, the whole family got excited. Her first baby. She and James, my brother-in-law, live in St. Louis. It’s killing us. And by us, I mean our family. We want to hold that baby NOW. Mom is flying out Sunday, and Dad later that week. Lisa and I are planning a roadtrip and trying to contain ourselves because we want to go right this minute. But we know that she wants us to wait a little bit so she can rest and then have more company. So maybe later this month.

Also, I know this is not important at all, but I think it’s neat that when Ella turns 3, it will be on 3-3-2013. I’m just saying. It’ neat.

Okay, so here are the pictures that were sent to my phone of my precious niece. Brace yourself for the impact of cuteness in your face.

This is right after she was born.
This is Ella in her first little nightgown, getting ready for nighttime.

She’s teeny! An adorable 7lb, 4 oz, 19.5 inches long, bundle of love. Sweet, sweet baby. I can’t wait to hold you in my arms and tell you how much you are loved by your whole family. Welcome to the world, Ella.

Love,

Your favorite Aunt. Just go with me on this one. 😉
