Mt. Laundry

I tend to do our laundry all on one day instead of throughout the week. When I do that, and I add in bedding for two bedrooms (if we’ve had a guest stay with us), and our dogs’ bedding…I get this:

(30lb dog added for scale.)

Our dogs love to get on top of a pile of dirty laundry to chew on a toy. Random, I guess, but not totally unusual for dogs to like the scent of their owners’ clothes.

Anyway, does that not look like an impossibly huge pile of laundry for two people and two dogs? I’m just sayin’.

  1. Wow that’s all the laundry for 2 people for a week? My pile of laundry is about that big for just me for a week. Of course I guess I have a 5 sets of work clothes, 5 sets of exercise clothes, 5 sets of hangout clothes and then whatever I wear on the weekend on top of my sheets and towels. I miss being able to wear hangout clothes to work. Sigh.

On a funny note, my cats will almost never lay on anything dirty but if I forget and leave anything clean folded or laid out on my bed or something they’ll all over it. Towels are their favorite and since one of my cats is white sometimes I don’t know until I wash my face, try and dry it, and wind up with a face full of cat hair instead.

    1. That’s not much to you? I feel like it’s a ton!! But then, going through 15 outfits, not counting underwear or pjs or misc things you might wear during the week, I guess you do have a lot too! I laughed at your cat story. haha We have fur all over our house because of our dogs too. They love to be on blankets- that’s their fave.

  2. I’m SOO BAD about keeping up with my laundry. It gets to the point where I have to throw something dirty in the dryer so it looks clean! Gross….I know. I’m getting a little bit better (I’m sure Brian begs to differ). I am such the boy in our relationship 🙂

    1. HA! What did Brian think of the homemade laundry soap that he tried out? I know y’all do your laundry separately, and so I’m assuming he used it on his clothes, and you didn’t get any. haha

  3. That looks like about the amount of laundry my kids go through in a day. 🙂 I’m never, ever caught up on laundry.

    1. Yeah, but we don’t have any kiddos! I remember when I was little, my mom told me I could play dress up, but she was only going to wash the clothes that she dressed me in for the day that week, so I had to put anything else I tried on back where it came from, the way it was (folded or hanging up). With four kids in our family, she wasn’t going to do ANY excess washing. I don’t blame her. Now that I’m an adult and do all the laundry in our household, I get it!

  4. I tried doing laundry throughout the week, but then I was doing a load every day and it was driving me nuts!!! So I decided that if I’m gonna go nuts, it may as well be once a week. 🙂 That pile you have is nothing compared to mine. I have that and then some with 2 teenagers. And that doesn’t include sheets and towels. That’s extra.

  5. Chance and I are the same way!!! We are really bad about washing clothes and then not putting them up though, so we live out of our laundry baskets for weeks!

    1. I’m bad about that too. After all that washing and folding and hanging, it seems silly not to put it away, but I’m so over it by then. haha

  6. That’s how I used to do laundry, too, until Ella. Now, I do that much laundry about three times per week…but when I am tempted to complain, I just remember how much laundry Lisa has to do, and I try to smile!

    1. For real!! I don’t have to do our laundry plus four little ones (yet, anyway, haha), so I shouldn’t complain, I guess.

  7. That is a huge pile!!! 🙂 I think I would get discouraged and just take a nap in it! Haha!

I totally underestimated how much our laundry would increase when Lia arrived. I figured… little person, little clothes, right? Ha! Little person who goes through outfits faster than the hosts of the Academy Awards! Maybe (probably) I am obsessive about not using dirty burp cloths, but some days we go through all of them. I change her sheets every day, otherwise her face breaks out from drool that soaks in. I try to do our sheets and towels on Mondays, plus one load of whatever else may be dirty (I don’t separate anymore) each day of the week. Then there are the diapers…. one load washed 3x’s every other day. But I consider it all a labor of love. And am so thankful that I am am blessed with the time to spend on it. Otherwise, we may have drowned in it during these past 4 months. 🙂 I don’t know what I’ll do if we ever have a guest bedroom, more baths, and more kids… hopefully be a bit more chilled out about it than I am now!

  8. You are way better than us! Our laundry room is DIS-GUST-ING (spiders, webs, have to go outside to get there… if I had more money, I would use a laundry service…), so we only do laundry when we run out of underwear or towels (whatever comes first). True Fact. This means that about once a month, we venture to the basement and do about 7 loads of laundry. Jordan has been a total star and did the laundry the past two months. *Lucky Girl* When I’m a grown up, I want a laundry room in my house…
